‘Meitei’ stands for ‘Manipuri’ and ‘Jagoi’ for ‘Dance’. ‘Meitei Jagoi’ is Manipuri Nrityaguru Devjani Chaliha’s institution, specialized in teaching Manipuri dance since 1971, with the view to preserve traditional purity and perfection of the great Manipuri Nrityaguru Maisnam Amubi Singh. Meitei Jagoi aims at training students in the in the true and authentic style of Manipuri dance, through scientific
methods. The trainees are made conversant with the socio- religious background of Manipuri dance, to help them imbibe the spirit of this classical dance form. In 1979, a free section for the underprivilaged
students, was initiated, which is continuing till now, simultaneously with the paying section. In today’s evening programme both the sections will participate and perform… Enjoy it. Thank you.
